Manchester City earned a hard-fought win over Brentford on Matchday 7 of the Premier League 2025/26 season on Sunday, October 5. Erling Haaland’s goal separated the two sides in this contest. The win saw Manchester City rise to 5th in the Premier League standings. Interestingly, this was Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s 250th win in the Premier League. This was his 349th match as manager in the Premier League.

Manchester City were dominant in the first half which saw in-form Haaland score as he edged past Sepp van den Berg to blast in his 9th Premier League goal of the season in the 9th minute . Brentford keeper Caoimhin Kelleher also made a stunning save to deny midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, while Phil Foden spurned a string of chances.
City managed to hold on to their slim lead at the Gtech Community Stadium. They limited Brentford to few opportunities in what was a scrappy second half. Guardiola was pleased to see his side get the three points as it earned him his 250th win in the league.
Fastest manager to 250 Premier League wins
As mentioned, Guardiola clocked 250 Premier League wins in just 349 games. He is now the fastest Premier League manager to 250 wins (by matches). In fact, Guardiola is 55 matches faster to the milestone of the previous record holder – Sir Alex Ferguson. The former Manchester United manager took 404 matches to hit the milestone in the Premier League era. Meanwhile, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is next, requiring 423 matches to reach the total.
Meanwhile, Guardiola’s win percentage of 71.6% sees him be far ahead of next-best Ferguson on 65.2%.
As per Opta, Guardiola is just the 16th manager to clock 250 wins at a single club in top-flight English league history. He is also the quickest to do so.
