Toman Kumar, a 30-year-old CRPF constable who lost his leg in a Naxal IED blast two years ago, has scripted a remarkable comeback by winning gold at the World Archery Para Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. He clinched the men’s compound title on Saturday, adding another chapter to his inspiring journey.
From injury to international glory
In 2022, Kumar was severely injured during an anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh when an improvised explosive device went off, claiming his leg. Instead of bowing to adversity, he turned to para archery, training tirelessly to compete at the highest level.
Medal-winning consistency
Since his recovery, Kumar has emerged as one of India’s brightest para-archery prospects. He has already secured seven medals in national and international competitions, with the Gwangju gold standing out as his most significant achievement.
Symbol of resilience
Kumar’s story is being hailed as a symbol of determination and resilience within the CRPF and Indian sporting circles. His success is expected to inspire not only para-athletes but also countless others who face setbacks in life.
