India pacer Mohammed Siraj was on Monday named the ICC Player of the Month for August following his match-winning effort in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast was also honoured with the award in the women’s category.
Heroics at The Oval
Siraj produced a sensational spell on the final morning, grabbing three wickets to seal India’s thrilling six-run victory in the decisive Test. He finished with nine wickets in the match, helping India draw the high-profile Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy series 2-2.
Reflecting on the award, Siraj said,
“It is a special honour to be named ICC Player of the Month. The series was one of the most intense contests I have been part of. Bowling against a top batting line-up in their home conditions was challenging but brought out the best in me.”
Prendergast shines for Ireland
Ireland’s Orla Prendergast claimed the award ahead of Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali and Netherlands’ Iris Zwilling. The all-rounder starred in Ireland’s T20I series against Pakistan, scoring 144 runs and taking four wickets to secure a 2-1 series win.
She continued her fine run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, amassing 244 runs and grabbing seven wickets in August, cementing her reputation as one of Ireland’s brightest cricketing talents.
