London, UK – Liverpool’s prolific forward Mohamed Salah has etched his name deeper into football history, being named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year. The Egyptian sensation becomes the first player ever to win the prestigious award three times, solidifying his status as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
A Season of Unprecedented Individual Accolades
Salah’s latest PFA triumph comes after an extraordinary 2024-25 season where his individual brilliance played a pivotal role in Liverpool clinching the league title, finishing a dominant 10 points clear of runners-up Arsenal. The 33-year-old was the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and also led the league in assists with 18, making him the first player to win all three major individual Premier League awards in a single season:
- Premier League Player of the Season award
- Golden Boot (for most goals scored)
- Playmaker award (for most assists)
This latest PFA accolade adds to his previous wins in 2018, following his debut season at Liverpool, and again in 2022. He topped a six-man shortlist, chosen by votes from PFA members across all 92 Premier League and Football League teams. The shortlist included Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Contract Extension Ends Speculation
Salah’s celebratory season comes after he put an end to months of speculation regarding his future, signing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April.9 This new deal quashed rumors linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League, ensuring his continued presence at Anfield.
Other PFA Award Winners and Team of the Year
The PFA also announced other significant awards:
- Men’s Young Player of the Year: Aston Villa and England midfielder Morgan Rogers, 23, secured this honor after scoring eight league goals in 37 starts and four Champions League goals, including a hat-trick against Celtic.
