BENGALURU: India’s top cricketers, including skipper Rohit Sharma, young batting star Shubman Gill, and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, have successfully cleared the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) mandatory fitness assessments ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup.
The testing was conducted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where players underwent a series of evaluations including the widely used Yo-Yo endurance test and DXA scans to assess bone density and overall physical condition.
Players Pass Stringent Fitness Standards
In addition to Sharma, Gill, and Bumrah, several other key squad members—such as Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur—also passed the assessments without any concerns. The tests are a standard part of the BCCI’s pre-tournament protocols to ensure players are in peak condition for high-intensity competition.
Gill Cleared After Illness Setback
Gill’s participation drew attention after he withdrew from the Duleep Trophy earlier this month due to a bout of fever. His clearance now signals a full recovery ahead of India’s continental campaign, which begins in Dubai.
Rohit’s Future Plans Yet To Be Confirmed
While Rohit Sharma comfortably completed his fitness evaluations, the BCCI has yet to confirm whether he will join the Asia Cup squad immediately or continue preparations for the upcoming India A series and Australia tour.
Focus On Peak Readiness
With the Asia Cup just weeks away, the Indian team management is prioritizing fitness and form to ensure a smooth build-up. The testing protocol reflects the growing emphasis on scientific evaluation and injury prevention in modern cricket.
