Bangladesh and Kazakhstan will feature in the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup hockey tournament after replacing Pakistan and Oman in the updated schedule released on Tuesday. The event, scheduled from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir, also serves as a qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.
Pools Announced
Hosts India have been drawn in Pool A alongside China, Japan and Kazakhstan. Pool B features defending champions Korea, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh. Only the winner of the continental tournament will earn a direct berth to the World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Tournament Opener
The competition will kick off on August 29 with Malaysia taking on Bangladesh, followed by Korea beginning their title defence against Chinese Taipei. India are set to face China in the final game of the opening day, aiming for a strong start in front of home supporters.
Pakistan Pulls Out
Pakistan’s participation was in doubt following heightened tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack. While the Indian government had assured visas for Pakistani players, the Pakistan Hockey Federation eventually declined, citing security concerns. Organisers had already contacted Bangladesh as a standby option.
Road Ahead
The tournament will conclude on September 7 with the final, along with third-place and 5th–6th classification matches. India, playing on home soil, will look to capitalize on favourable conditions and secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
