Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Football fever reached new heights at the Esports World Cup 2025 on Sunday as two of the sport’s most legendary figures, Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Cup winners Kaka and Ronaldo Nazario, traded the pitch for the digital arena, battling it out in an exhibition match of EA Sports FC. The thrilling best-of-three contest saw Kaka emerge victorious, much to the delight of fans in Riyadh.
Kaka’s Digital Dominance over “The Phenomenon”
The highly anticipated showdown began with a classic match of EA Sports FC, which Kaka won tightly with a score of 3-2. The former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder then showcased his digital prowess in the “Mystery Ball” mode, stamping his authority with a dominant 11-6 victory.
Ronaldo, often referred to as “The Phenomenon,” attempted to mount a comeback in the final game, played in “Survival” mode. However, Kaka continued his winning streak, securing the game 3-2 and sweeping the series.
“I had a blast at the Esports World Cup Showmatch in Saudi Arabia! It was an incredible experience, and I’m so happy I got to share it with Ronaldo. All those hours of training with Luca (Kaka’s son) definitely paid off,” Kaka shared on social media, hinting at his secret to virtual success.
A Friendly Rivalry and Future Showdowns
Ronaldo took his defeat in good spirits, even extending a challenge for a rematch in a different game. “Next time, next year, we play Warzone,” he quipped with a smile, suggesting a future clash in the popular first-person shooter.
Both Kaka and Ronaldo were integral parts of Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, a highlight of their illustrious careers. They also shared club colors at AC Milan under coach Carlo Ancelotti. While Kaka is most famously associated with his time at Milan, Ronaldo’s club career spanned across European giants including Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, and Corinthians.
Ronaldo Nazario is one of only ten players to have won the prestigious Ballon d’Or more than once, receiving the award in 1997 and 2002. Kaka, who lifted the coveted golden ball in 2007, remains the last Brazilian to have won the award.
The exhibition match underscored the growing synergy between traditional sports and esports, bringing iconic athletes to the forefront of the competitive gaming world.
