Johannesburg, South Africa – LB Boshoff delivered a masterful performance on Tuesday, carding a blemish-free six-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead in the fifth tournament of the Betway Big Easy Tour, held at CMR Golf Club. The Big Easy Tour serves as the official feeder circuit for the Sunshine Tour, supported by golf legend Ernie Els.
Boshoff’s Offensive Start and Patient Finish
Boshoff’s round began with a steady par on the first hole, after which he quickly found his rhythm, sinking four consecutive birdies. This aggressive start was followed by a patient stretch of nine straight pars, as he focused on avoiding any dropped shots. His composure paid dividends towards the end of his round, as he added two more birdies on the 15th and 18th holes to complete his impressive 64.
Crediting his wedges for his success, Boshoff emphasized that his early birdies were crucial in maintaining his composure when further gains proved harder to come by later in the round.
Jacques Van der Merwe in Close Pursuit
Just one stroke behind Boshoff, Jacques Van der Merwe sits in second place with a five-under 65. Despite a difficult start that included a “heartbreaking” seven on the par-four second hole, Van der Merwe displayed remarkable focus to stay in contention.
Sharing third spot on the leaderboard with opening rounds of 66 are Regan Steyn, Richard Joubert, Haydn Porteous, Drikus Joubert, England’s Joe Sullivan, and Liam Ross. Ten players, including Khanya Mkhize, Jason Froneman, and veteran Teboho Sefatsa, are tied for ninth place.
The tournament continues at CMR Golf Club, with players aiming to secure vital points and prize money on this developmental circuit.
