Bhubaneswar : India won its first-ever gold medal at the FISU World University Games 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, when archers Parneet Kaur and Kushal Dalal clinched the mixed compound team title. The duo defeated the defending champions South Korea with a close score of 157-154 in the final held at Essen. Despite South Korea leading 78-77 at halftime, the Indian pair demonstrated exceptional precision and composure in the final stages, scoring perfect 10s and an ‘X’ to secure victory. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian university sports and highlights the growing prominence of compound archery, which will debut as an Olympic event at the Los Angeles 2028 Games
In addition to this historic gold, India earned two more medals in archery on the same day: a silver by the men’s compound team comprising Kushal Dalal, Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, and Hritik Sharma who narrowly lost to Türkiye 232-231, and a bronze by the women’s compound team of Parneet Kaur, Avneet Kaur, and Madhura Dhamangaonkar, who defeated Great Britain 232-224. These successes reflect India’s rising standards in university-level archery and contribute to a total of five medals India had won at the Games by that point. With around 300 Indian athletes competing across multiple disciplines, this performance underscores India’s strengthening presence on the global university sports stage.
