Indian rifle shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar is heading into the 2026 Asian Games with confidence built on preparation rather than pressure. One of India’s most dependable shooters in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, Tomar says his focus remains firmly on improving himself instead of worrying about the magnitude of the competition or the quality of his rivals.
The 25-year-old, who has represented India at two Olympic Games, is among the country’s strongest medal contenders after being named in the 30-member Indian shooting squad for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
Self-belief remains Tomar’s biggest strength
Tomar believes every competition begins with confidence in one’s own preparation. Even during difficult phases in his career, he has relied on discipline and consistent training to regain momentum.
Rather than getting distracted by expectations, the Madhya Pradesh shooter has chosen to stay committed to his daily routine. According to him, continuous practice and faith in the process are what ultimately produce results on the biggest stages.
Training over pressure
The Indian sharpshooter admitted that expectations naturally increase ahead of major events like the Asian Games, but he views them as motivation instead of a burden.
His training programme currently revolves around technical refinement, physical fitness and maintaining mental composure. In the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, where even fractions of a point separate medal winners, Tomar also places special emphasis on reading wind conditions and adapting quickly during competition.
Impressive form ahead of the Asian Games
Tomar enters the continental event in outstanding form. Earlier this year, he clinched the gold medal in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Asian Shooting Championships, producing a world-record score of 362.0 under the revised finals format. The remarkable performance further strengthened his reputation as one of the world’s leading rifle shooters.
His consistency at international competitions has made him one of India’s biggest medal hopes as the nation aims for another successful campaign in shooting.
Eyes firmly set on the podium
While Tomar has avoided making bold predictions, his objective is clear—to deliver his best performance when it matters most. He believes that if he executes his training and stays composed under pressure, the results will follow naturally.
With India expected to field one of its strongest-ever shooting contingents, Tomar’s experience, technical excellence and calm temperament could prove crucial in the country’s pursuit of medals at the 2026 Asian Games.
