Indian shooters Neeru Dhanda and Vivaan Kapoor ended India’s campaign at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Almaty, Kazakhstan on a high, securing the bronze medal in the trap mixed team event after an impressive run throughout the competition.
The Indian pair delivered a composed performance in qualification, shooting a combined score of 143 to book their place in the medal round. Their tally left them just two points behind Italy’s experienced duo of Silvana Stanco and Mauro De Filippis.
Strong Finish Earns India A Podium Spot
In the final, Neeru and Vivaan shot 24 out of their opening 30 targets and stayed firmly in medal contention against a high-quality field featuring Olympic and world champions. Despite matching the Italian pair’s final score, the Indians had to settle for bronze after finishing lower in qualification rankings.
Chinese Taipei’s Kun-Pi Yang and Wan-Yu Liu claimed the gold medal with a world-record score of 36 in the final.
Important Milestone For Indian Shooting
The bronze medal marked the first ISSF World Cup podium finish for both Neeru and Vivaan in the Olympic trap mixed team event. It also became India’s second podium finish since mixed team trap was officially added to the Olympic programme last year.
Vivaan showed remarkable consistency during qualification, missing just two targets across 75 shots, while Neeru bounced back strongly with perfect rounds to help India reach the final.
