Ethiopia’s Tadesse Kassa and Kenya’s Mercy Chebwogen emerged victorious at the 2026 Copenhagen Marathon, producing commanding performances in the men’s and women’s races respectively in one of Europe’s biggest long-distance running events.
Kassa delivered a strong late surge in the men’s race to secure the title and continue Ethiopia’s dominance in elite marathon running. Meanwhile, Chebwogen controlled the women’s race with a composed and consistent pace to clinch the top podium finish for Kenya.
Fast Times Highlight Competitive Field
The Copenhagen Marathon once again attracted a high-quality international field featuring elite runners from Africa and Europe. The flat course and cool conditions helped athletes push for fast finishing times in both categories.
Kassa’s victory added another major international title to Ethiopia’s growing success in distance running, while Chebwogen further strengthened Kenya’s reputation in women’s marathon events with a confident display over the 42.195 km course.
