Matheus Cunha believes Michael Carrick has brought back the “magic” of Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United sealed a return to the Champions League.

The Brazilian forward played a key role in the 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, scoring the opening goal that set the tone for a crucial victory. The result ensured United’s qualification for Europe’s elite competition with three games still remaining in the season.

Cunha, who has been one of United’s standout performers, highlighted Carrick’s influence since taking charge in January. The interim boss has overseen 10 wins in 14 matches, a turnaround that few predicted after a difficult first half of the campaign under Ruben Amorim.

“He has the magic with these Ferguson times,” Cunha said, pointing to Carrick’s connection with the club’s most successful era. Having been part of Ferguson’s dominant squad, Carrick has used that experience to instill belief and discipline within the current group.

Carrick’s Impact

Carrick’s calm approach and tactical clarity have helped stabilize the team during a turbulent period. Under his guidance, United not only climbed back into the top four but also rediscovered a sense of identity that had been missing earlier in the season.

The 44-year-old’s success has put him in strong contention for the permanent role. His ability to blend young talent with experienced players has been key, while his understanding of the club’s culture has resonated with the squad.

Despite securing Champions League football, Carrick has urged his players not to lose focus. United still have targets to achieve, including finishing in the top three and reducing the gap to the league leaders.

Looking Ahead

Cunha emphasized that qualification is just the first step in a larger rebuilding process. The forward, who has scored nine goals this season, believes the club must now aim higher and challenge for major trophies.

He also spoke about the importance of senior figures like Casemiro, whose future at the club remains uncertain. While changes are expected in the summer, Cunha hopes the team can retain its core strength.

For now, the focus remains on finishing the season strongly. With momentum on their side and Carrick’s influence growing, United appear to be moving in the right direction—reconnecting with a past that defined success while building toward a more stable future.
