Spain Confident of Hosting 2030 World Cup Final Amid Co-Hosts Portugal and Morocco

Madrid – Spain has expressed strong confidence that it will host the final of the 2030 men’s FIFA World Cup, positioning the country as the leading host of the historic tournament.

The 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, while the opening matches will take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to mark the 100th anniversary of the World Cup. The first tournament, held in 1930, was hosted and won by Uruguay, with Argentina as runners-up. Paraguay, home to Conmebol, the South American football confederation, will also host matches as part of the celebrations.

Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan said: “Spain has proven its organisational capacity over many years. It will be the leader of the 2030 World Cup and the final of that World Cup will be held here.”

Morocco has also expressed interest in staging the final at its Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, expected to be completed in 2028 with a capacity of around 115,000. Morocco’s Royal Football Federation president Faouzi Lekjaa last year suggested the final could even feature Spain as the opponent.

In Spain, the leading candidate stadiums are Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu and Barcelona’s Nou Camp, though Louzan did not confirm which will be chosen. FIFA retains the final authority to decide the venue, and the governing body has said it is too early to make a decision.

Louzan also acknowledged Morocco’s progress, saying, “Morocco is really undergoing a transformation in every sense, with magnificent stadiums. We must recognise what has been done well. But in the Africa Cup of Nations, we have seen scenes that damage the image of world football.” The Afcon final in Rabat earlier this month saw Senegal walk off in protest following a controversial penalty, with unrest in the stands delaying the match.

For the 2030 World Cup, Spain has proposed 11 stadiums, Morocco plans to use six, and Portugal three. The tournament promises a historic, multi-continental celebration of football, spanning Europe, Africa, and South America, with Spain aiming to play a central role in delivering a successful and memorable event.
