Bhubaneswar: China has introduced a breakthrough streaming technology called the “Ultra-Perspective” mode that significantly changes how live sports are watched.
The system was rolled out during the country’s 15 th National Games, particularly in sports like basketball and badminton. Viewers were given the ability to choose their viewing angle, zoom in on players, rotate the camera 360°, and explore the action from virtually any viewpoint.
The development is the result of collaboration among major Chinese institutions: the Central Video organisation, the National Key Laboratory, the Sports Youth Programme Centre, the Technology Bureau, and expert teams from Shanghai and Guangdong.
At its core, the Ultra-Perspective system uses real-time 3D video capture and deep-learning tools to build a complete virtual model of the playing area. This allows seamless integration of multiple camera angles and 3D modelling to deliver an immersive experience.
According to feedback, fans found the technology highly engaging. Some viewed it as the kind of sports viewing innovation they had been waiting for — with one user commenting: “I’ve dreamt of this for years in live sports.”
Observers believe the Ultra-Perspective mode could redefine live sports broadcasting worldwide. While it is yet to be confirmed whether the system will be expanded outside China, the positive reception suggests that fully controllable live sports streams may represent the next major evolution in how sports are consumed.
In short, China’s new Ultra-Perspective mode doesn’t just add another camera—76it gives the viewer the camera.
