India’s shooting contingent continued its impressive run at the 25th Summer Deaflympics, with Anuya Prasad and compatriot Pranjali Prashant Dhumal securing a spectacular 1-2 finish in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event on Monday.
Anuya not only clinched the gold but also set a new Deaf final World Record, while Pranjali had earlier broken the qualification world record to earn her spot in the finals, underscoring India’s dominance in the discipline.
Anuya Prasad’s Gold Medal Performance
Anuya started strong, shooting 52.5 in the first series and maintained her lead throughout the finals. She finished with a total score of 241.1, edging out Pranjali by 4.3 points, who took silver with 236.8. Mahla Samiee of Iran claimed the bronze.
Record-Breaking Qualification by Pranjali
In the qualification round, Pranjali scored 572-12x, surpassing her own previous World and Deaflympics records (568 and 561, respectively), setting up a thrilling final.
Men’s Event Highlights
India’s Abhinav Deshwal delivered another stellar performance in the men’s 10m Air Pistol, winning silver with a score of 235.2, after equalling the world and Deaflympics qualification record with 576. Korea’s Tae Young Kim took the gold (238.2), and Croatia’s Boris Gramnyak secured bronze (215.3). Another Indian, Rudar Vinod Kumar, finished 12th in qualification with 549.
India’s Shooting Medal Tally Soars
With seven shooting medals in just two days of competition, India’s shooters have established themselves as strong contenders at the Deaflympics. The next event, Air Rifle Mixed Teams, is scheduled for tomorrow, with hopes high for adding more medals to the tally.
