Two-time world champion Shericka Jackson produced a dominant performance to win the women’s 200m race at the 2026 Shanghai Diamond League meeting in China.
The Jamaican sprint star looked in complete control throughout the race, powering away from the field over the closing metres to secure an impressive early-season victory.
The highly anticipated showdown had attracted major attention because it featured several of the world’s top sprinters, including American star Sha’Carri Richardson and Britain’s Amy Hunt.
Richardson, the 2023 world 100m champion, struggled to match Jackson’s pace and eventually finished fourth in the race.
Jackson’s victory marked another significant step in her resurgence after injury problems disrupted parts of her previous season. The Jamaican had missed the Paris Olympics after suffering an Achilles injury but has steadily rebuilt form since returning to competition.
The women’s 200m was widely considered the headline event of the opening Diamond League meeting of the season due to the quality of the field and the rivalry between Jackson and Richardson.
Jackson remains one of the greatest female sprinters in modern athletics and is the second-fastest woman in history over 200m with her personal best of 21.41 seconds.
Richardson entered the event aiming to begin her outdoor campaign strongly after an inconsistent 2025 season, but the American star was unable to challenge for victory in Shanghai.
The Diamond League opener in Shanghai also featured several Olympic and world champions across track and field disciplines, marking the official start of the 2026 outdoor athletics season.
With the World Athletics calendar intensifying over the coming months, Jackson’s performance has already established her as one of the favourites for major sprint events later this season.
