Manchester, May 14: Manchester City are not done yet. With the Premier League title race heading into its final stretch, Pep Guardiola’s side delivered a professional 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, keeping their title dreams breathing.
The win takes City to 77 points, just two behind leaders Arsenal, with both teams having two matches left. One slip from the Gunners could still open the door for City.
Phil Foden was the standout performer, providing two assists that set up the first-half goals. In the 32nd minute, he produced a clever flick to find Antoine Semenyo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Just eight minutes later, Foden again turned provider, touching a cross into the path of Omar Marmoush, who finished smartly past Dean Henderson.
City took their foot off the gas in the second half, making several changes to manage player workload ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea this weekend. Palace, also rotating with one eye on their own European final, couldn’t find a way back. Savinho added a late third goal in the 84th minute, assisted by Rayan Cherki, to wrap up the comfortable win.
After the match, Guardiola was full of praise for Foden, highlighting his ability to produce magic in tight spaces. “These types of games against a low block… you need quality, spark, talent. Something that is not in the tactical board,” the manager said.
