British Muay Thai icon Liam Harrison has spoken candidly about retirement, his fighting legacy and the unforgettable moments that defined one of the most respected careers in combat sports.
The 40-year-old veteran recently confirmed that his professional fighting career is nearing its end after decades competing at the highest level of Muay Thai. Harrison admitted the decision to step away has been emotionally difficult but acknowledged that years of physical punishment have taken a toll on his body.
Harrison became one of Britain’s most celebrated Muay Thai fighters after winning multiple world titles and competing internationally against elite opponents across Thailand, Asia and Europe. He later gained global recognition through his explosive appearances in ONE Championship.
Among the defining moments of his career was his legendary 2022 clash with Muangthai PK Saenchai, a bout widely regarded as one of the wildest rounds ever seen in combat sports. The fight featured multiple knockdowns inside a chaotic opening round before Harrison secured a dramatic knockout victory.
Reflecting on the contest, Harrison described it as a surreal experience and admitted he barely remembers portions of the fight because of the intensity and adrenaline involved. The bout quickly became one of the most replayed fights in ONE Championship history and elevated Harrison’s popularity among global fans.
Harrison also spoke about the devastating knee injury he suffered against Nong-O Hama in 2022, which forced him into a lengthy rehabilitation process and significantly impacted the latter stages of his career. Despite returning to competition afterward, he admitted recovery became increasingly challenging with age.
The Leeds-born fighter said he now hopes to focus more on coaching and mentoring younger athletes through his Muay Thai gym, aiming to pass on his experience to the next generation of fighters. Harrison has long been regarded as one of the UK’s most influential figures in Muay Thai development.
Throughout his career, Harrison built a reputation for aggressive fighting, resilience and entertaining performances, qualities that earned him admiration from fans and fellow fighters worldwide.
Even as retirement approaches, Harrison believes his legacy will be remembered not just for titles and victories but for the excitement and passion he brought every time he entered the ring.
