Watford FC have sacked head coach Ed Still after less than three months in charge following a disappointing end to the season.
The 35-year-old was appointed in February on a two-and-a-half-year deal after the departure of Javi Gracia. At the time, Watford were 11th and within touching distance of the play-off spots. However, a sharp decline in results saw them slip to 16th in the table.
Poor results seal his fate
Still managed just three wins in 15 league games, with the team finishing 16 points off the play-offs and only 10 above the relegation zone. His final match was a heavy 4-0 home defeat to Coventry City FC, which marked the club’s fifth consecutive loss.
During that run, Watford conceded 16 goals and scored only once, highlighting both defensive frailties and attacking struggles. The dismal sequence effectively ended any hopes of Still continuing in the role.
Club begins another rebuild
In a brief statement, Watford confirmed the departure of Still along with first-team coach Karim Belhocine. The club thanked both for their efforts and wished them well for the future.
The Hornets will now begin the search for yet another head coach, continuing a pattern of frequent managerial changes. Since 2019, Watford have gone through a series of coaches, reflecting ongoing instability behind the scenes.
Familiar issues persist
Reports suggest that poor performances, lack of tactical clarity and low morale within the squad contributed to Still’s exit. Players appeared short on confidence, and the team struggled to maintain consistency during the crucial final weeks of the campaign.
Club owner Gino Pozzo has a history of making swift managerial decisions, and this latest move follows that trend. Fan frustration had also grown, with criticism directed at both the team and the club’s leadership.
Watford now face another summer of transition as they look to appoint a new manager capable of restoring stability and pushing for promotion next season.
