Paul Pogba believes Bruno Fernandes would be a serious Ballon d’Or contender if he played for Manchester City instead of Manchester United.
Pogba backs Fernandes quality
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents, Pogba described Fernandes as a top-class player who would rank among the world’s best in a more dominant side.
He said the Portuguese midfielder has all the qualities required to finish in the top three for the Ballon d’Or.
Numbers underline strong season
Fernandes, 31, has been one of United’s standout performers this season. He recently registered his 18th Premier League assist, closing in on the record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
He has also contributed goals and continues to lead United both on and off the pitch.
Trophies remain key factor
Pogba stressed that individual awards are closely linked to team success, suggesting Fernandes’ chances are limited without major trophies.
“When you don’t win, people don’t think about you,” he explained.
Fernandes committed to United future
Fernandes joined United from Sporting CP in 2020 and remains under contract until 2027.
Despite interest from elsewhere, he has stayed loyal to the club and continues to play a central role in their push for success.
