Kranti Gaud Fined 10% for Send-Off Gesture in Asia Cup Final
India fast bowler Kranti Gaud has been fined 10% of her match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women鈥檚 T20 Asia Cup 2026 final against Sri Lanka in Dubai. She was also handed one demerit point for the Level 1 offence.
The incident occurred during the first over of Sri Lanka鈥檚 chase, when Gaud dismissed opener Imesha Dulani and then gestured towards the pavilion. The ICC ruled that the gesture breached Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct.
Kranti Gaud Fined After Imesha Dulani Dismissal
Dulani had started the chase by hitting a boundary off Gaud before being dismissed a few deliveries later. After completing the dismissal, Gaud made the gesture that subsequently led to the disciplinary charge.
Article 2.5 covers language, actions or gestures that disparage a dismissed batter or could provoke an aggressive reaction.
Gaud admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Supriya Rani Das, meaning no formal hearing was required. It was her first offence within a 24-month period.
Kranti Gaud Fined but India Complete Asia Cup Triumph
The disciplinary action came a day after India produced a dominant performance in the final.
India scored 183/5, powered by Shafali Verma鈥檚 68 and Smriti Mandhana鈥檚 59, before bowling Sri Lanka out for 111. India won by 72 runs to claim a record-extending eighth Women鈥檚 Asia Cup title.
Gaud’s sanction therefore does not affect India’s title, but the demerit point will remain on her disciplinary record for 24 months unless it is subsequently expunged under ICC regulations.
Kranti Gaud Fined Under ICC Level 1 Code
Level 1 is the lowest category under the ICC Code of Conduct. Such breaches can result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
For Gaud, the matter has been closed after accepting the sanction. Her attention can now return to India’s upcoming international commitments after a successful Asia Cup campaign.
