Seventeen-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus, the new world indoor 800 metres champion, is poised to make his Wanda Diamond League debut at the BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm on 7 June — the Swedish capital’s premier stop on the global tour.
Lutkenhaus captured global attention last month in Toruń, Poland, when he became the youngest world champion in athletics history, winning the indoor men’s 800m final in 1:44.24 against a field of seasoned international competition.
A Dream Stage for Outdoor Breakthrough
“I’ve watched several races from BAUHAUS-Galan online in recent years,” Lutkenhaus said. “The names that have competed there have basically been among the greatest of all time. They truly love athletics in Sweden, and I’m looking forward to experiencing it. It’s a dream come true for me.”
The Stockholm lineup — one of the key meets in the 2026 Diamond League series — promises some of the sport’s biggest stars and a highly competitive men’s 800m field. Competing in this elite one-day event will mark a crucial milestone in Lutkenhaus’s transition to top-level outdoor racing after his indoor triumph.
What Comes Next
Following Stockholm, Lutkenhaus is scheduled to line up at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon, on 3 July, where he returns to the same Hayward Field track where he ran a personal best of 1:42.27 last year — a time that made headlines as a world U18 record.
With his rapid rise in middle-distance racing and a growing reputation as one of track and field’s most exciting young talents, Lutkenhaus’s Stockholm debut will be one of the most anticipated events of the early outdoor season.
