The UEFA Champions League round of 16 delivered high drama as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Sporting CP booked their places in the quarter-finals.
Madrid dominate again
Madrid continued their dominance over Manchester City with a 2-1 win on the night and a 5-1 aggregate triumph. Vinícius Júnior starred with a brace, opening from the penalty spot after Bernardo Silva was sent off for handball. Erling Haaland equalised briefly, but Madrid sealed the tie late.
PSG underline title credentials
Defending champions PSG brushed aside Chelsea 3-0 in London to complete an 8-2 aggregate rout. Early goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola set the tone before Senny Mayulu added a third after the break.
Arsenal march on
Arsenal secured a controlled 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen to progress 3-1 on aggregate. Eberechi Eze netted a superb opener, while Declan Rice wrapped up the victory.
Sporting’s historic comeback
Sporting produced the performance of the night, overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit to thrash Bodø/Glimt 5-0 after extra time (5-3 aggregate). Goals from Gonçalo Inácio, Pedro Gonçalves and Luis Suárez forced extra time, where Maxi Araújo and Rafael Nel completed a famous turnaround.
Wednesday’s decisive clashes
The remaining quarter-final spots will be decided in upcoming ties:
Barcelona vs Newcastle United (1-1 first leg)
Bayern Munich vs Atalanta (6-1 first leg)
Liverpool vs Galatasaray (0-1 first leg)
Tottenham Hotspur vs Atlético Madrid (2-5 first leg)
With four teams already through and the remaining ties finely poised, the race for European glory is entering a decisive phase.
