The India national cricket team held their nerve to defeat the England national cricket team by 7 runs in a dramatic semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. With the victory, India booked a place in the final against New Zealand national cricket team.
Batting first, India piled up a massive 253/7 in 20 overs, one of the highest totals in a World Cup knockout match. The star of the innings was Sanju Samson, who smashed 89 runs off just 42 balls, hitting 8 fours and 7 sixes in a breathtaking knock. Samson got an early lifeline when England captain Harry Brook dropped a catch while he was on 15 — a moment that proved extremely costly for England.
Samson received strong support from Ishan Kishan, who scored 39 off 18 balls, and Shivam Dube, who added 43 from 25 deliveries, helping India cross the 250-run mark in front of a roaring Mumbai crowd.
Chasing a huge target of 254, England responded with fearless batting. Young star Jacob Bethell played a sensational innings, scoring 105 off 48 balls to keep England in the contest. But the turning point came in the 19th over, when Bethell was run out while attempting a second run, effectively ending England’s hopes of completing the chase.
Despite some late fireworks from Jofra Archer, England finished at 246/7 in 20 overs, falling just short in a match that produced nearly 500 runs and more than 30 sixes.
In the end, India’s powerful batting and calm bowling in the death overs sealed a memorable victory, sending the Men in Blue into the T20 World Cup final, where they will face New Zealand in the title clash.
