A breathtaking overhead kick by Youssef Chermiti stole the spotlight as Rangers F.C. and Celtic F.C. played out a dramatic 2–2 draw in the latest Old Firm derby at Ibrox.
Rangers dominated the first half thanks to Chermiti’s brilliance. The striker opened the scoring with a spectacular acrobatic overhead kick, a goal that quickly sparked debate among fans about whether it could be the best Old Firm goal of the 21st century. The forward then doubled Rangers’ lead with another clinical finish to give the home side a commanding 2–0 advantage at half-time.
Celtic, however, produced a spirited comeback after the break. Defender Kieran Tierney pulled one back in the 56th minute, heading home from close range to give the visitors hope.
The match was filled with late drama as Celtic pushed hard for an equaliser. In stoppage time, a VAR review awarded them a penalty after a handball decision. Midfielder Reo Hatate stepped up and, after his initial efforts were saved by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, eventually converted on the third attempt in the 91st minute to secure a thrilling 2–2 draw.
The result leaves the fierce Glasgow rivals locked in a tense title race, while Chermiti’s sensational overhead strike continues to dominate discussions among supporters as one of the most memorable goals in recent Old Firm history.
Full-time: Rangers 2–2 Celtic.
