Start And Finale Dates Confirmed
The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 28, 2026, with the final scheduled for May 31, 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier indicated a March 26 start to franchises, but the league’s governing body has now pushed the opening back by two days. The complete match schedule is expected to be announced soon.
Delay In Schedule Announcement Linked To Elections
The release of the full fixtures has reportedly been delayed due to pending Assembly election dates in Assam, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. These states are home to key IPL venues, including Kolkata and Chennai, while Guwahati also serves as a secondary base for Rajasthan. The governing council is expected to meet shortly to finalize venues and match timings.
Opening Match And Venue Discussions
Discussions are ongoing regarding the venue for the opening match, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru likely to feature in the curtain-raiser. Following last season’s crowd-related concerns at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, authorities are also considering alternative venues such as Navi Mumbai, Raipur, or Pune. A final decision on hosting arrangements is expected before the schedule release.
Extended Window For A Packed Season
Spanning more than two months, IPL 2026 is set to be one of the longest editions of the tournament. With high-profile clashes and playoff battles lined up, fans can look forward to an action-packed season culminating in the grand final on May 31.
