Laura Muir marked a triumphant return to the Scottish cross-country championships, winning the senior women’s 10km title 14 years after her last appearance.
The 32-year-old Olympic medallist crossed the line 13 seconds clear at Callendar Park in Falkirk, adding a senior crown at the same venue where she claimed Under-20 gold in 2012.
Longest race of her career
Muir described the 10km contest as the longest race of her professional career and admitted it felt like a step into the unknown. Despite losing ground on technical sections and climbs to hill-running specialists Scout Adkin and Naomi Lang, she relied on her trademark speed to pull clear in the closing stages.
She said her current fitness gave her confidence and expressed satisfaction at proving herself over the demanding terrain.
Full-circle moment in Falkirk
Reflecting on her previous success at the venue as a teenager, Muir said she could never have imagined the medal-laden career that followed. Since then, she has claimed medals across European, World, Olympic and Commonwealth championships, both indoors and outdoors.
Returning to domestic competition, she said, had been special — particularly with the warm reception from Scottish supporters.
In the men’s race, Jamie Crowe secured his fourth Scottish cross-country title, underlining his dominance at national level.
