Thailand: Marco Bezzecchi ended pre-season testing in emphatic fashion by smashing the lap record at the Chang International Circuit, leading an impressive Aprilia one-two on the final day of the MotoGP test in Thailand.
The Italian clocked a blistering 1:28.668, the fastest ever recorded at Buriram in testing, to put a clear marker down ahead of the season-opening Thai Grand Prix. It was not just quick — it was a statement.
“Today everything just clicked,” Bezzecchi said after the session. “We’ve worked hard all winter, and to finish like this gives the whole team confidence.”
Ogura Impresses Again
Right behind him was rising Japanese talent Ai Ogura, who continued his remarkable adaptation to MotoGP machinery. The rookie finished just 0.097 seconds off Bezzecchi’s benchmark, completing a dream afternoon for Aprilia.
Ogura’s pace throughout the test turned heads in the paddock. Calm, consistent and increasingly confident, he looks ready to challenge far sooner than many expected.
“It’s only testing, but I feel more comfortable every time I go out,” Ogura noted. “We’re building something strong.”
Ducati Close Behind
Despite Aprilia’s dominance at the top, Ducati’s heavyweights were never far away. Marc Márquez finished third fastest, though his day was interrupted by a late crash. The Spaniard walked away unhurt but will hope for a smoother start when racing begins.
Teammate Francesco Bagnaia also showed competitive pace, underlining Ducati’s continued threat heading into the opening round.
A Statement Before Lights Out
The Buriram test marked the final opportunity for teams to fine-tune their packages before the championship kicks off at the same venue next weekend. Aprilia’s 1-2 finish suggests they have found both speed and balance at a circuit known for its technical demands and punishing heat.
While testing times don’t always tell the full story, Bezzecchi’s record-breaking lap has undoubtedly shifted attention toward the Noale factory.
If this performance carries into race weekend, MotoGP’s 2026 season could begin with a dramatic shake-up at the front.
