MADRID: Pascal Wehrlein delivered a gritty performance at the 2026 Madrid E-Prix, overcoming early struggles to clinch a hard-fought podium and retain his lead in the Formula E championship standings. The Porsche driver revealed that his race almost felt over within the opening laps. Reflecting on the start, Wehrlein admitted he struggled to find rhythm and feared he would drop out of contention early.
He said that after just “three or four laps,” he believed his chances were gone, highlighting how challenging the opening phase of the race proved to be. Despite the shaky beginning, Wehrlein regrouped and steadily worked his way back into the fight. A tense late-race battle with Dan Ticktum saw the German driver defend his position and secure third place at the Madrid E-Prix.
The race itself was won by António Félix da Costa, with Mitch Evans finishing second, as Wehrlein completed the podium lineup. The podium marked Wehrlein’s third of the season, underlining his consistency in the 2025–26 Formula E campaign. More importantly, the result helped him maintain his position at the top of the drivers’ standings.
Beyond the on-track drama, the achievement carried personal significance. Wehrlein celebrated the podium with his young daughter, turning the result into a memorable family moment after an intense race.
