Wolverhampton: Premier League leaders Arsenal were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers after a stoppage-time equaliser denied the Gunners all three points at Molineux Stadium on Wednesday.
A debut goal from 19-year-old Tom Edozie, four minutes into added time, completed a spirited comeback for Wolverhampton Wanderers against Arsenal, who had looked in complete control for much of the contest.
Arsenal made a flying start, with captain Bukayo Saka opening the scoring inside five minutes. Deployed in a new No.10 role and wearing the armband amid reports of a new long-term contract, Saka stooped low to head home Declan Rice’s inswinging cross, the ball squeezing between the legs of goalkeeper José Sá.
The visitors continued to press, with Sá denying Noni Madueke and reacting sharply to prevent Gabriel Martinelli from converting the rebound. Wolves struggled to gain a foothold in the first half, their best effort a long-range strike from André that drifted wide.
After the break, Arsenal appeared to tighten their grip. In the 56th minute, Piero Hincapié latched onto Gabriel’s pass and thundered a finish into the roof of the net. Although the offside flag was initially raised, a VAR review confirmed he had been played onside by Hugo Bueno.
But Wolves refused to fold. Bueno quickly made amends, curling a superb effort into the top-left corner to halve the deficit and ignite the home crowd. Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, began to wobble under pressure.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time.
Following a weak punch from David Raya, Edozie seized the loose ball and saw his shot deflect off Riccardo Calafiori on its way in, sparking wild celebrations.
The result trims Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to five points. With second-placed Manchester City holding a game in hand, the title race remains finely poised after a night of late drama at Molineux.
