Milan: Italy delivered a stirring performance on home ice to clinch the men’s team pursuit gold in speed skating, clocking 3:39.20 to top the podium at the Winter Games.
Skating in front of an electrified crowd at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium, the Italian trio of Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini, and Michele Malfatti combined precision, power and flawless teamwork to outpace the United States in Final A.

The victory marks Italy’s first Olympic gold in the men’s team pursuit since the nation last hosted the Winter Games at Turin 2006, capping a memorable night for the home side.
The United States — comprising Ethan Cepuran, Casey Dawson, and Emery Lehman — secured silver with a time of 3:43.71, finishing 4.51 seconds behind the Italians. The American trio added to their Olympic medal haul after previously winning bronze in the same event at Beijing 2022.
Bronze went to the People’s Republic of China, who triumphed over the Netherlands in Final B. The Chinese team of Liu Hanbin, Wu Yu, and Li Wenhao claimed their first Olympic medals on debut, sealing a landmark achievement for the nation.
For Ghiotto, the gold medal adds to his Olympic résumé following his bronze at Beijing 2022, while Giovannini and Malfatti celebrated their first appearances on an Olympic podium.
Italy’s triumph further strengthened their remarkable home campaign, as the hosts continue to surge up the medal standings in Milan-Cortina.
