France have handed a first international start to promising centre Fabien Brau-Boirie for Sunday’s Six Nations clash against Wales in Cardiff.
Head coach Fabien Galthie has reshuffled his midfield after injuries ruled out Nicolas Depoortere, Yoram Moefana and replacement Kalvin Gourgues. The changes come despite France’s commanding 36-14 victory over Ireland in their championship opener.
Young Centre Rewarded for Club Form
Brau-Boirie, 20, earns his opportunity after an impressive season with Pau, where he has scored nine tries in 15 appearances. Standing at 6ft 3in, the powerful back will start at inside centre and form a new partnership with club-mate Emilien Gailleton, who crossed for a try against Wales in last year’s fixture.
The selection signals Galthie’s confidence in youth as France look to maintain momentum early in the tournament.
Flament Returns to the Squad
Lock Thibaud Flament is back in the matchday 23 after missing the Ireland win due to personal reasons. The Toulouse second row is named among the replacements, alongside uncapped Stade Francais centre Noah Nene.
France again opt for a six-two split on the bench, prioritising forward strength, with hooker Maxime Lamothe also included among the replacements.
Half-Back Pairing Continues
Antoine Dupont captains the side and resumes his partnership with fly-half Matthieu Jalibert. The duo will start together against Wales for the first time since 2021, offering continuity behind a pack that impressed against Ireland.
The remainder of the starting XV remains unchanged as France look to build on their dominant opening performance.
France Target Continued Dominance
Les Bleus travel to the Principality Stadium on a seven-match winning run against Wales, stretching back to the 2019 World Cup. They will aim for a fourth consecutive bonus-point victory in this fixture.
Wales, who were heavily beaten by England in round one, are due to name their team on Friday. With confidence high and fresh talent injected into midfield, France will arrive in Cardiff as strong favourites to extend their winning streak.
