Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field in their final ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match against Pakistan on Friday, as rain once again forced a shortened contest at the Colombo venue. The game has been reduced to 34 overs per side, with a 7-over powerplay.
Both teams are playing only for pride, with Sri Lanka out of semifinal contention after India sealed the last spot in the knockouts. The hosts have managed just one win in six outings, while two matches were washed out. Pakistan are still searching for their first win of the tournament after six straight losses.
Sri Lanka’s campaign has been heavily rain-affected — only two of their matches so far have been completed without interruptions. Pakistan too have endured frustrating washouts, including promising starts against Australia and England.
Despite the weather challenges and the dead-rubber status, both teams will hope for a competitive finish to their campaigns and one last chance to showcase their progress on the global stage.
