Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has criticised his club after Spurs were left with just 11 fit senior players for their 2-2 draw against Manchester City. The defender called the situation “disgraceful” and said it showed poor planning during the January transfer window.
Injury crisis leaves Spurs short
Tottenham have suffered badly with injuries in 2026, losing nine players in recent weeks. The club also sold last season’s top scorer Brennan Johnson and signed only two senior players in January, which reduced squad depth.
Because of this, manager Thomas Frank had very limited options and was forced to rely on the same group of players in a high-pressure match.
Romero questions club decisions
In a social media post, Romero praised his teammates for their fighting spirit but expressed frustration at the club’s management. He said it was unbelievable that a top Premier League side could be left in such a situation.
This is not the first time the Argentine defender has raised concerns about recruitment and leadership at Tottenham.
Board backs long-term planning
Club sources have defended their transfer strategy, saying they avoided short-term signings. They believe recent additions fit into the club’s long-term vision.
Frank also supported this view, explaining that transfers are not simple and cannot always be completed as planned.
Despite the problems, Romero has said he remains committed to Spurs, who are currently struggling in mid-table.
