Bhubaneswar: The stage is set for a thrilling finale to the Men’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2025–26 as Vedanta Kalinga Lancers take on Ranchi Royals in the title clash at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium here on Monday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
The summit clash brings together the two most consistent teams of the season, with the coveted Hero HIL trophy on the line.
Road to the Final
Vedanta Kalinga Lancers topped the league stage with 16 points before defeating Ranchi Royals 2–1 in Qualifier 1, showcasing their composure in high-pressure situations.
Ranchi Royals finished second in the league standings and, after a narrow defeat in Qualifier 1, bounced back strongly to edge past Hyderabad Toofans 3–2 in Qualifier 2, keeping their title hopes alive.
Lancers Rely on Defensive Solidity
The Lancers have been the most defensively sound side this season, conceding just eight goals in the league stage. Their strength lies in a compact defensive structure and lethal penalty-corner execution.
Belgian defender Alexander Hendrickx has been their standout performer, scoring ten goals—all from penalty corners. The team also boasts the second-highest penalty-corner conversion rate at 29.7 percent. Playing at home, the Lancers will enjoy strong crowd support as they look to cap off a dominant campaign with silverware.
“We have been consistent throughout the season, and reaching the final is a reward for the hard work of the entire group,” said Lancers captain Arthur Van Doren. “Ranchi are a dangerous attacking side, and we will need to be at our best. Playing the final in Bhubaneswar gives us extra motivation.”
Royals Bank on Attacking Firepower
Ranchi Royals enter the final as the most prolific attacking team of the tournament, having scored 25 goals in the league stage. Their attack has been led by Belgian striker Tom Boon, the league’s top scorer with 18 goals, including field goals, penalty corners, and penalty strokes.
Boon recently celebrated his birthday with a hat-trick against Hyderabad Toofans in Qualifier 2, underlining the Royals’ ability to rise on big occasions.
“We have shown great character to reach the final,” said Royals captain Tom Boon. “Finals are about delivering on the day. We respect the Lancers, but we believe in our attacking strength and our ability to handle pressure.”
Head-to-Head
The two sides have met twice this season, with Vedanta Kalinga Lancers emerging victorious on both occasions—a 4–2 win in the league stage followed by a narrow 2–1 victory in Qualifier 1. However, both encounters were closely fought, setting the stage for another intense contest.
What’s at Stake
For the Lancers, the final represents a chance to crown a dominant season with a title on home turf. For the Ranchi Royals, it is an opportunity to script a remarkable comeback and lift the HIL trophy.
With pride, momentum, and history on the line, a high-voltage final awaits hockey fans in Bhubaneswar.
