New Delhi: Olympian skeet shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa has officially switched his sporting nationality from India to Canada, citing personal and professional reasons behind what he described as an “emotional and tough” decision.
Explaining his move in an interview to The Bridge, Bajwa said the choice was driven largely by family responsibilities and work commitments in Canada, which had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue competing while travelling frequently between countries. “It was not an easy decision at all. It was very emotional,” Bajwa was quoted as saying by The Bridge, adding that balancing sport, family life and business had become a challenge.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympian and two-time Asian champion revealed that changes in his personal life, including marriage, also played a role in reshaping his priorities. According to The Bridge, Bajwa felt that representing Canada would allow him greater stability and continuity in his shooting career while managing responsibilities off the range.
Importantly, the transition has followed due process. The Bridge reported that the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), clearing the way for Bajwa to compete internationally under the Canadian flag.
Despite the switch, Bajwa made it clear that the decision was not a rejection of India. As reported by The Bridge, he continues to maintain close ties with the country and acknowledged the role Indian shooting played in shaping his career.
Bajwa will now aim to restart his international journey with Canada, hoping that the change brings renewed focus and balance as he looks ahead to the next phase of his sporting life.
