Chennai: Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons climbed to the top of the Men’s Hero Hockey India League standings after registering a hard-fought 3-2 victory over JSW Soorma Hockey Club in an intense league match at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Egmore.
The Dragons dominated the early exchanges and were rewarded for their attacking intent in the 28th minute when Selvaraj Kanagaraj opened the scoring with a sharp finish from close range. They doubled their advantage just before halftime as Uttam Singh struck with a powerful reverse hit, giving the home side a 2-0 lead at the break.
JSW Soorma Hockey Club came back strongly in the second half, increasing pressure and finding a breakthrough late in the third quarter through Maninder Singh, who reduced the margin to one goal. However, the Dragons responded quickly as Blake Govers restored the two-goal cushion in the 47th minute with a well-taken field goal.
The match saw a tense finish after Soorma captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 58th minute to make it 3-2. The visitors pushed hard in the final moments, earning crucial penalty corners, but the Dragons’ defence held firm under pressure to seal the victory.
With this win, Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons moved to the top of the Men’s Hero Hockey India League points table, underlining their strong start to the season. JSW Soorma Hockey Club, despite the defeat, showed resilience and remain in contention as the league continues to deliver closely fought encounters.
