Vedanta Kalinga Lancers moved up to second place in the Men’s Hero Hockey India League standings after securing a narrow 2-1 win over Shrachi Bengal Tigers in a tense encounter at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium. The result underlined the Lancers’ growing momentum as the league phase heads into a crucial stage.
Scoreless Battle Until Final Quarter
Both teams produced disciplined defensive performances in the opening three quarters, with chances at either end failing to produce a breakthrough. Strong goalkeeping and organised backlines ensured the contest remained evenly balanced heading into the final quarter.
Late Goals Turn The Match
The deadlock was finally broken in the 52nd minute when Alexander Hendrickx converted a penalty corner with a precise drag-flick to put Vedanta Kalinga Lancers in front. Shrachi Bengal Tigers responded quickly as Affan Yousuf equalised in the 56th minute, keeping the pressure on the Lancers.
Moments later, Boby Singh Dhami struck the decisive goal in the 57th minute, finishing from close range after a penalty corner rebound to seal the victory for the Lancers.

The win lifted Vedanta Kalinga Lancers to second place on the points table, strengthening their bid for a place in the knockout rounds. Shrachi Bengal Tigers, despite the narrow loss, showed fighting spirit and will look to regroup ahead of their upcoming matches.
