India Women continued their dominant run in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, registering an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the third match at the Greenfield International Stadium on Friday to seal an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-game contest.
After opting to bowl, India produced another clinical bowling display led by Renuka Singh Thakur, who made a successful return to the side with figures of 4 for 21. She found excellent support from Deepti Sharma, whose disciplined off-spin not only fetched 3 for 18 but also saw her create history.
During the spell, Deepti became the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s T20I history, drawing level with Australia’s Megan Schutt on 151 wickets in the format, underlining her consistency and value to the Indian side.
Sri Lanka were repeatedly pegged back by regular wickets and never gained momentum. Early resistance faded quickly, and despite brief contributions from Imesha Dulani and Kavisha Dilhari, the visitors could only manage 112 for 7 in their 20 overs.
The chase was dominated by Shafali Verma, who once again lit up the evening with a fearless batting display. The opener remained unbeaten on a commanding 79 off 42 balls, dismantling the Sri Lankan bowling attack and guiding India home in just 13.2 overs.
The comprehensive win highlighted India’s all-round superiority throughout the series, with bat and ball firing in tandem. With two matches still remaining, India have already wrapped up the series, while Sri Lanka will be aiming to salvage pride in the remaining fixtures.
