Visakhapatnam | Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium : India Women will look to build on their commanding start when they take on Sri Lanka Women in the second T20I of the five-match series in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. With a comfortable win in the series opener, the focus for the home side shifts towards consistency and fine-tuning combinations rather than wholesale changes.
India began the series in emphatic fashion, restricting Sri Lanka to 121 for 6 in the first T20I before chasing down the target in 14.4 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues starred with an unbeaten 69, anchoring the chase after an early wicket and earning the Player of the Match award. India finished at 122 for 2, underlining the gulf between the two sides.
The opening match also marked a significant milestone for Smriti Mandhana, who became the first Indian woman to cross 4,000 T20I runs, further strengthening her reputation as one of the format’s most consistent batters.
While India’s batting looked fluent and assured, the team management is expected to use the second T20I to address minor lapses in fielding and explore bowling combinations as the series progresses. With several matches still to come, rotation and workload management could also come into play.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be keen to regroup after a below-par batting performance. Vishmi Gunaratne showed promise at the top in the first game, but the visitors will need stronger middle-order contributions and tighter bowling to challenge India on a surface that has favoured batters.
As India aim to maintain their dominance and Sri Lanka look to stay alive in the contest, the second T20I presents another opportunity for both teams to assess their depth and adaptability early in the series.
