Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has announced that 2026 will be his final year on the ATP Tour, signaling the end of an extraordinary tennis career. On his official social media account, Wawrinka wrote: “Every book needs an ending. It’s time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player. I still want to push my limits and finish this journey on the best note possible. I still have dreams in this sport. I’ve enjoyed every part of what tennis has given me, especially the emotions I feel playing in front of you. I’m looking forward to seeing you one more time, all around the world.”
Wawrinka has achieved a remarkable career, reaching a career-high ranking of world No. 3 in singles and winning 16 ATP Tour-level singles titles. He claimed three Grand Slam singles titles, defeating Rafael Nadal at the 2014 Australian Open and Novak Djokovic twice at the 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open, triumphing over the reigning World No. 1 each time.
Beyond singles, Wawrinka also won Olympic gold in men’s doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics alongside Roger Federer and played a crucial role in Switzerland’s 2014 Davis Cup victory.
