In a landmark moment for Indian sport, 16-year-old Vir Gahrotra clinched a gold medal at the Pole and Aerial Sports World Championship held in Budapest, Hungary — marking India’s first ever podium finish at this prestigious global event.

Representing the nation in the Junior B Amateur Men (15–17 years) aerial silks category, Vir stood out among competitors from countries with strong aerial traditions, including Ukraine, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Aerial silks demand exceptional upper-body strength, flexibility, endurance and artistic expression. At the championship level, routines are evaluated on technical precision, execution and artistic control — not just difficulty.

Vir’s winning routine impressed judges with flawless control, consistency and composure, even under the fatigue of intense competition — earning him the top score and the coveted gold medal.

India’s Debut Shines Bright

The event was part of the inaugural POSA World Aerial Championships 2025, organized by the Pole Sports & Arts World Federation (POSA) and featuring athletes from over 40 countries.

Vir’s historic victory not only celebrates his individual achievement but also marks a proud milestone for India’s debut on this global stage, highlighting the nation’s growing presence in aerial and pole sports.

The Indian contingent was led by head coach Ria Bajaj and supported by Coach Masuma Mun, along with members of the Indian Federation Committee. Their guidance played a key role in preparing the athletes for top-level international competition.
