Brisbane Airport, Queensland, Australia : In a surprising twist off the pitch, England’s Ashes tour hit the headlines again on Saturday — not for cricket, but for controversy at Brisbane Airport as the team prepared to fly to Adelaide ahead of the crucial third Test.
Channel 7’s broadcast showed a member of England’s security staff physically confronting Australian TV cameraman Nick Carrigan, who had been filming the touring party in the airport terminal. According to footage and eyewitness reports, the security guard repeatedly told Carrigan “Get out of my face, mate” and at times physically pushed him away while attempting to block filming of the players.
Carrigan, clearly taken aback, said the reaction was unexpected given previous positive interactions between the broadcaster and the team during their mid-series break in Noosa. “I understand he’s got a job to do but yeah that was totally uncalled for,” he told 7NEWS.
Channel 7 defended its cameraman, saying he acted “respectfully and professionally” and was filming in a public area, adding that “the safety and wellbeing of our staff is paramount”. The matter is now being addressed through appropriate channels according to the broadcaster.
Cricket Australia had earlier issued media guidance encouraging respectful distance while teams travel through airports — a point reiterated after the incident.
The England & Wales Cricket Board declined immediate comment, and the incident adds a new layer of drama around a series already dominated by headline-grabbing moments — on and off the field — with England currently trailing 2–0.
