Barcelona produced one of their most complete performances of the season, overpowering Atletico Madrid 3–1 at a partially reopened Camp Nou to tighten their grip on the LaLiga summit. Goals from Raphinha, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres overturned an early scare and ended Atletico’s unbeaten league run dating back to August.
The match, played in the early hours of Wednesday at 1:30 AM IST, saw the champions stretch their advantage to four points over Real Madrid, who visit Athletic Bilbao later in the day.
Early Blow, Quick Response
Atletico arrived in Catalonia riding a seven-match winning streak across competitions and looking like serious title contenders — and they struck first. In the 19th minute, Nahuel Molina exploited Barcelona’s high line with a perfectly weighted long ball sending Alex Baena through to finish calmly past Joan Garcia.
But the hosts responded sharply. Making his first start in over a month, Pedri delivered a trademark defence-splitting pass in the 26th minute, allowing Raphinha to beat the offside trap, round Jan Oblak and slot home the equaliser.
“We are gaining confidence match by match. Points like these can decide a league title,” Raphinha said afterward.
Barcelona could have gone ahead before the break when Dani Olmo won a penalty after being clipped by Pablo Barrios, but Robert Lewandowski ballooned his effort over the bar before Oblak denied him again with a stunning save from a header.
Second-half Surge
The second half began tense and balanced, but Barcelona’s persistence finally broke through. In the 65th minute, a loose ball in the box fell to Olmo, who drilled a low finish into the bottom corner. The goal came at a cost, as he landed awkwardly and exited holding his shoulder.
Atletico nearly levelled when substitute Thiago Almada danced past defenders and the goalkeeper, but pushed his effort wide of the open net.
With Atletico pushing numbers forward, Barcelona struck the decisive blow deep into stoppage time. Alejandro Balde surged down the left and squared to Ferran Torres, who finished in the 95th minute to seal the points.
A Win With Meaning
More than three points, this felt like a defining moment in the title race — composed, aggressive and resilient against a direct rival.
Barcelona stay top with authority; Real Madrid now chase, while Atletico slip to fourth, six points back.
A big win, a bigger message: Barça’s title defence is alive and kicking.
