The Indian men’s hockey team suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat against Belgium at the 2025 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, a match that was originally scheduled earlier but had been postponed by a day due to incessant rain in Malaysia. The rescheduled contest began at 7:30 am IST on November 25.
Belgium struck first in the 17th minute through Roman Duvekot. India responded with Abhishek equalizing in the 33rd minute, but Belgium quickly regained the lead with Nicolas De Kerpel scoring at the 45-minute mark, followed by another goal from Duvekot just a minute later, putting India 3–1 down.
India’s Shilanand Lakra pulled one back in the 57th minute, giving the team hope for a comeback. Despite intense pressure in the closing stages, Belgium held on to secure the win.
With this result, India now sits fourth on the tournament table with one win and one loss. The team will look to bounce back when they face Malaysia on November 26, 2025.
