On a day scripted for legends, Mushfiqur Rahim didn’t just walk out for his 100th Test — he owned the occasion. The Bangladesh stalwart, already celebrated for reaching a landmark no one from his country had touched before, lifted the moment to historic heights by scoring a sublime 106, becoming only the 11th cricketer ever to score a century in their 100th Test match.
The landmark moment came during the second Test against Ireland at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, where the 38-year-old brought up his 13th Test hundred — a fluent 106 that showcased experience, control and remarkable longevity.
Rahim had already created history the previous day by becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer ever to reach the 100-Test milestone. But he elevated the occasion even further by converting it into a performance that places him in one of cricket’s rarest clubs — a feat achieved by legends such as Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Ricky Ponting, Joe Root and David Warner.
Only 10 players before him had managed to score a century in their 100th Test, with Ponting famously making twin hundreds in 2006 and Warner smashing a double hundred in 2022. Rahim now joins that elite list as its newest member.
Ahead of the match, Bangladesh Cricket Board felicitated the veteran with a commemorative cap, a plaque, and two special jerseys — one signed by his teammates from his debut Test and another by the current squad. The celebration set the tone for what would become one of the defining knocks of his career.
With no immediate plans to retire, Rahim’s milestone hundred further cements his legacy as one of Bangladesh’s greatest-ever cricketers. BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin has confirmed that the senior pro intends to continue contributing to the national side.
As the applause in Dhaka echoes across the cricketing world, Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th-Test century stands out not just as a personal triumph, but as a proud moment for Bangladesh cricket — a testament to resilience, skill and an unwavering passion for the longest format of the game.
