Stephen Curry produced a stunning 46-point performance as the Golden State Warriors handed the San Antonio Spurs their first home defeat of the NBA season, winning 125-120 at the Frost Bank Center in Texas.
The two-time MVP led by example, scoring 29 points in the second half as the Warriors overturned a deficit to snap their six-game road losing streak. His trademark shooting brilliance once again proved the difference in a high-scoring contest.
“The third quarter is what we do – getting stops, pushing, creating easy offense. Thankfully, I was able to knock a couple down,” said Curry after the game.
Wembanyama’s triple-double in vain
Despite the loss, Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama continued to impress, recording a triple-double alongside teammate Stephon Castle — marking the first time in franchise history that two Spurs players achieved the feat in the same game.
However, their efforts could not stop Curry’s second-half surge as the Warriors outscored the Spurs 76-64 in the final two quarters. Jimmy Butler added 28 points and eight assists for Golden State, while Moses Moody contributed 19 points off the bench.
Thunder overpower Lakers
In Oklahoma City, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to a dominant 121-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, finishing with 30 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.
The defending champions were in control throughout, at one point leading by 37, which allowed Gilgeous-Alexander and other starters to rest during the fourth quarter.
Five-time All-Star Luka Doncic top-scored for the Lakers with 19 points and seven assists, but his side was well beaten before the final period. The Thunder now sit at the top of the Western Conference with a 12-1 record.
“We definitely got better over the last two days, and that’s the main goal,” said Gilgeous-Alexander.
Jokic shines again for Nuggets
Elsewhere, Nikola Jokic delivered another masterclass, scoring 55 points — including 25 in the first quarter — as the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 130-116 in Inglewood, California.
The three-time MVP also grabbed 12 rebounds and six assists, helping Denver secure their sixth straight win. It was the fourth time in Jokic’s career that he scored at least 50 points in a regular-season game, further cementing his status as one of the league’s most dominant forces.
