Manny Pacquiao has revealed that talks for a long-awaited rematch with Floyd Mayweather are “almost” complete — potentially setting the stage for one of boxing’s most anticipated comebacks.
Pacquiao, 46, told Seconds Out that his team and Mayweather’s camp are in direct talks for a possible showdown in Las Vegas. “It depends on whether we can understand each other,” the Filipino legend said, hinting that only a few details remain before the fight is confirmed.
The two first met in 2015 in the much-hyped “Fight of the Century,” where Mayweather triumphed via unanimous decision after 12 tactical rounds. Pacquiao later claimed a shoulder injury hampered his performance and admitted in 2018 that he could not “retire with peace of mind” after that defeat.
While Pacquiao retired in 2021, he returned to the ring in July against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, earning a majority draw. Mayweather, meanwhile, retired undefeated in 2017 but has since engaged in several exhibition fights — and is currently set to face former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson next year.
“It’s very interesting because right now, I don’t have a shoulder problem,” Pacquiao said. “I’m sure the world of boxing will be excited if the rematch pushes through.”
If finalized, the bout could mark a sensational revival of one of boxing’s greatest rivalries — ten years after their first encounter captivated the world.
