Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered another pitching gem as the Los Angeles Dodgers hit back to level the World Series at 1-1 with a composed 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The Japanese ace produced a second straight postseason complete game, while catcher Will Smith powered the offence with three RBIs.
Yamamoto Dominates Again
Just a week after going the distance in the National League Championship Series against Milwaukee, Yamamoto repeated the feat in Toronto. The right-hander needed only 105 pitches to silence a strong Blue Jays lineup and give the Dodgers’ bullpen a much-needed night off after their struggles in Game 1.
The Dodgers struck early as Smith drove in Freddie Freeman in the opening inning. But Kevin Gausman then found complete control, retiring the next 17 batters he faced to keep his side firmly in the contest. Toronto levelled in the third when Alejandro Kirk’s sacrifice fly brought home George Springer.
Smith Sparks Late Breakthrough
The deadlock held until the seventh inning — then Smith and Max Muncy changed everything. Both lifted solo shots over the left-field fence against Gausman, turning the momentum completely in the Dodgers’ favour.
